When I was 5, my teacher asked me what I wanted to be in life, and my reply was, “A scientist” because they can experiment and that sounds so exciting. Every child thinks a thousand things based on their interest and curiosity before life finally reveals what they were born to do. I had already been writing for since long, everything that I wanted to write, and it always gave me a great sense of joy and happiness, but once I realized that I wanted to be a full-time writer, and decided this was what I seriously wished to pursue, there was no looking back. Writing gives me a chance at exploration, observation, and deep thinking.
Back in my college days, I used to write long funny emails to my friends about our everyday life, which they would read together during our computer classes and even before that I would exchange detailed letters with my siblings who were living abroad. These grounds had already given me a good grip on writing and then later during an important phase in my life when I was contemplating what I’d like to be known as professionally, ‘an author’ was my instinct.
If you want to write, you need to prioritize it. It doesn’t mean I’d skip my other responsibilities, but I make a point to balance writing and everything else.
I just go with the flow. Once I’m done writing then I do all the editing and stuff.
I read anything from fantasy to suspense to romance. The storytelling matters. And I have a formula for knowing if I’d like to read a book or not. I read one-fourth of a book with all my patience and if it manages to grip my interest, I complete it.
